Working with the team at Smarter Homes has been great. From start to finish they were very thorough in their assessment of the project, forthcoming with the costs associated with the project, and flexible in working through different ideas to meet my budget. Their work is excellent. From fit and finish between speakers and the TV to the overall networking of the house they do it all. I had a fairly large project with them and they completed it start to finish within only a few weeks. They took care of audio video, networking, Security, and cameras. Everything you need for smart home. Moreover the guarantee of their service is worth it. I also have taken advantage of their service plan, of which their maintenance in response has been awesome.
We have been pleased with Pete and his team when helping us to choose a system for our media room. The equipment was top quality and his team stayed with us as we learned how to use it properly. We weren’t abandoned. We came back to Smarter Homes when we downsized. We enjoyed what we had so much that we wanted to make the most of our new situation and now find it a pleasure to have quality entertainment in our much smaller living situation. They are fair and professional.
Peter Sanford, owner and founder of SMARTERHOMES has provided me with outstanding professional knowledge and expertise in helping to get me away from ridiculously high ATT bills and paying only for those channels i want to watch. I get excellent reception without a cable box. He truly knows what he is doing and will explain things in a way that you can understand. He has empathy for us mortals who don’t really understand how all these “weird” things work. You will be glad if you contact him.

I recently moved into a new condo and wanted to have my audio and tv set up as streamlined as possible with central control from my ipad or computer. I contacted smarter homes and Peter came out to the condo and gave me an estimate and could have it all installed within days. They did great on the installation, everything was installed neatly including repainting walls and baseboards. They even matched the speaker covers to the wall color. And the job was completed within the estimate Peter provided. I love the Sonos sytem, everything works great. I can access music from the web or from my storage system that is connected to itunes and play in any room in the condo. I also have central control of my tv’s. I highly recommend these guys. They have great customer service.
I contacted Pete about a full home theater and speaker installation in 7 rooms at my house. Pete and his team did an excellent job coordinating the work, procuring the equipment and providing quality support at the end of the job. This review is about one year in the making. I first started working with Smarter Homes of Austin in the spring of 2013, when I had just purchased my home and wanted to retrofit it to become a “smart home”. One of the most appealing things at the start was the ability to have a consultation meeting and explain exactly what I wanted from my system without needing to dive into industry jargon. The professionals at Smarter Homes listened to my wish list, which was fairly diverse, and they proposed a system install plan that met my specifications precisely and within the budget that I had set as a firm limit. They were never pushy or focused on the dollars of the sale; their goal was to make my smart home dreams come true. And they delivered in spades. Peter, Jeremy, and Andrew have a tremendous level of expertise in system design and integration, and the quality of their work showed from day one. Every aspect of the system was carefully planned, implemented with a level of attention to detail that I have rarely seen before. They do not use sub-contractors for their install work, so I was able to establish a relationship with my system integrator, not just be another faceless customer. I really can’t say enough how pleased I am with the amount of personal attention my project received; Peter and his team have been wonderful to work with over the course of the project. The work was completed on-time and within budget, important factors for a large-scale project. But the area where Smarter Homes stands out from any other vendor I’ve worked with before is their customer service, especially after the sale and installation. Any large-scale project retrofitting an existing home will have technical challenges, and Smarter Homes went above my expectation to iron out any wrinkles, be patient with me when I had to ask for changes to the original design, and to work to my complete satisfaction with any hardware or custom programming issues. Whenever a problem cropped up due to unforeseen circumstances, Peter and the technicians from Smarter Homes were right there, working day and night to figure out what needed to be fixed, replaced, or upgraded to get me to the system that I have today, which is exactly what I had envisioned. If it were possible in a Yelp review to give six stars, Smarter Homes of Austin would have earned every one of them, and I eagerly recommend them for any Home Theatre or Home Automation project, large or small. You simply cannot find a better, more honest, more professional and more caring group to work with than Smarter Homes of Austin.
Pete at SmarterHomes was great. I noticed their business on Far West and gave them a call to fix a remote system problem on our complicated home TV/surround system. He scheduled an appointment promptly, showed up on time,diagnosed the problem, and fixed the system for a fair price. I’m glad they’re in the neighborhood.
It has been an absolute pleasure working with Peter and Smarter Homes. He came out to my condo downtown, assessed what I had and what I would need in my new townhouse, and then went to the townhouse to map out the strategy. His team executed beautifully....wires nicely bound and hidden and everything works perfectly. If I have an issue (such as when I moved a piece of furniture and accidentally unplugged something), Peter had Jeremy out immediately to fix the problem. I am extremely pleased with their service and would recommend Smarter Homes to anybody needing anything related to stereo, TV, or entertainment systems.
These guys did a great job with my surround sound installation, TV mounting, and AV components relocation. I’m really picky about things being placed exactly right (spacing, heights, leveling, etc.) as well as the working perfectly. They nailed it. Highly recommended!
Professional, well-informed, service oriented, and VERY patient. I just hired them to do my second home, they did as good a job as they did on the first one. These guys really went the extra mile to drive to my new condo, and stayed after normal work hours to complete the job. We are very happy with our new technology. I recommend them every chance I get. They are wonderful to work with, deliver what they promise and really look out for their clients. They answered my (many) questions on how to operate my new equipment without making me feel like I was being a pest. These are for sure my go-to guys when it comes to any audio/visual equipment.
Professional, reliable and available. I love these guys and have greatly appreciated the way they embraced me as a client and a friend. I’m a picky guy with high expectations and they graciously have come out to configure, reconfigure and fine tune to these standards. They know their stuff and have done the research to nail down the best products for the best price. No price gouging here. Peter and his gang have exceeded my expectations. Not only did they do everything they said they would (and more) when promised and for the budget, but they helped design a system for us that truly fits our needs.
Peter and his team are awesome! Peter personally changed us from Time Warner to Direct TV with incredible ease, and was very thorough with his training and explanations of the system. And THEN, everytime I had a question or needed clarification he would actually answer his cell phone and walk me through it! I love having a non-1-800 number and a REAL person to help me! We are very pleased with our product and especially impressed with the service form Smarter Homes of Austin!!
Other reviews have said it and I definitely agree: Smarter Homes of Austin has great customer service! They always follow up and don’t stop until any issue has been solved to your satisfaction. They are all very nice people, easy to work with and accessible when needed. I’m not electronically savvy (understatement) but now feel that I can relax because Smarter Homes is there and on it!
First off, I am totally technologically illiterate. I found Peter on Nextdoor and reached out seeking help with cutting the cord from my cable provider. Within minutes he totally created a solution that I am very happy with moving forward and best of all I no longer have cable bills. He’s personable, professional and quick to respond to my text messages and questions. I would definitely recommend him to My family and friends.
If you want a smart home hire these guys! I had Peter and his crew first install outdoor speakers and a movie projector and screen in 2013. They were always available to walk me through the steps until I learned the system— even late on a Saturday night when I was hosting a birthday party. They have the latest and greatest technology but what really makes them stand out is their personal service. I have had them install smart televisions, computers, better WiFi, and security cameras since then and it truly is a pleasure to work with them. They are knowledgeable in their field and extremely responsive to any help I may need. If I ever build a house, I will definitely use them.
The people at Smarter Homes are simply the best! They designed and installed my home WiFi and multiple-tv system using multiple cable sources, and implemented a whole-house sound system that has a “wow” factor. Their service after the sale is also excellent - if there’s an issue, they come out promptly and correct it. I would recommend them to anyone who wants a professional system in their home or office.
We hired Smarter Homes Austin after going thru a few AV companies. They fixed all the ills of the past installers and added great creativity to our project. Pete, the owner, along with his entire team are not just creative but kind and competent. I’m actually going to miss them now that our project is complete. Love you guys!!!!
I had a TV and DVD player but nothing else. Advanced AV solutions designed a surround sound system for me that included indoor & outdoor speakers, receiver, ipod doc, and universal remote. Their prices for the hardware were as good or better than other retailers charged for the same equipment. But the value really came through Advanced AV’s service. They installed the entire system and got it working together perfectly. It is by far the most user friendly complete entertainment system I have ever seen, and looks and sounds incredible. Peter even came back on his own time to show me some advanced features with the system. I saved a lot of money over what I was considering buying before I called Advanced AV solutions (and I would have had to try to install that myself - I wouldn’t have stood a chance). I couldn’t be happier with the system, the service, or the price!!
To begin with, DO NOT begin construction on a home, office space or retail space without consulting Smarter Homes of Austin. Not only will you get the best results, you will save money as well. I have used Peter and the gang on numerous occasions for sound, sight, lighting, etc and they always have the solution. My biggest regret is not using Peter during the construction of our home, the lighting, sounds system, and our home theater would have been completely different and much better. Even if you think you don’t have a problem or that improvement isn’t possible, you are probably wrong. Call Peter.
This company is incredibly professional. I highly recommend. I had a home theater system installed about a year ago. Everything went smooth: some minor glitches which was to be expected and were fixed right away. I felt like they offered a wide range of options depending on budget which was nice since this stuff can get expensive. Recently had to do a service call and they we’re on time and as professional as when we first dealt with them. Great company and team. Highly recommend!
After being heavily disappointed with the customer service at a major home theater store, I started shopping around for another business to install all of the necessary equipment for my home theater. I went to Smarter Homes of Austin on Farwest Blvd, where I met Peter. Right away Peter was extremely knowledgeable and made recommendations based on what I was trying to accomplish. Peter and Jeremy came out a week later and personally surveyed my room making additional recommendations I greatly appreciated. They recommended placing all the the main in equipment in another location which allowed me to add an additional movie chair to the room. They also made recommendations on other equipment issues in other rooms of my house that I did the work on which they are in the process of fixing for me as well. A week later, they came out and installed all of the equipment. It took them two days. They went above and beyond in my opinion, making sure everything matched the paint and double checked with me on certain things prior to installing. Even the electrician replaced all of the outlets so that they would match the room. When the work was done, the guys walked my wife thru everything and how to use it. Jeremy came by at a later date and adjusted everything just to make sure it was all working correctly and to the best of the systems ability. A few weeks later, Peter came by as well and spent an hour with my answering any questions I had. I built a back row riser which I had added LED’s to and Peter was able to add the controls for these lights to the universal remote they recommended. These guys are awesome and as mentioned earlier, I’m in the process of having them do additional work at my house. I’m so glad I came across them and I’m extremely pleased with the work they did and how my home theater room turned out. If you are looking for help with home electronics with personal customer service, search no more...these are the guys for you.
Smarter Homes goes above & beyond to assist their clients & perfect their services. Jeremy, in particular, is by far the most dedicated, honest, and knowledgeable service professionals I have ever had the honor to work with. His recommendations offered high quality at the lowest cost even though it required more time & effort on his part. He is a technical genius with the personality of a saint. Regardless of the problem, I will continue to call on Peter, Cortland, & Jeremy for all my technical assistance. HIGHEST POSSIBLE RECOMMENDATION.
I am so fortunate I met these guys! If I wanted to cut my own grass, maintain the chemicals in our pool, tune our piano and service our cars, I’d probably want to become a technology expert too. At this point I’ve earned my nights and weekends! Peter, Smarter Homes guys: THANK YOU!!
These guys were incredible. Fixed us up with what we needed. Came earlier than expected. They are incredibly professional and friendly. And our system sounds amazing. Also reasonably priced. I would recommend them without reservation.
Peter has done several TV wall mount installations for me over the last 4 years. I recently had them over for another installation and they did an outstanding professional job. I really appreciate that they were able to hide my cable set top box behind the TV where no additional equipment was required for the remote to operate correctly, which saved me $$. I will continue to call on Peter for all my A/V installation needs.
I started using Peter and Smarter Homes to work on my home audio/video system over a year ago when the company that had done my work had gone out of business. I was concerned about making this change on an installation and system designed by others but Smarter Home stepped right in, surveying the entire system and making the necessary repairs and changes to get us in better shape than we had ever been. They have stayed in touch and even stopped by to tweak the balance between speakers and reach of our Universal remote system. I strongly recommend them.
The staff is wonderful, the products are state-of-the-art, and the set-up was painless.
